As I have probably mentioned last time on my ’10 reasons to live outside of Seoul post, that good Korean food in Seoul are really rare, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any!  There are certain special restaurants scattered around Seoul that have a reputation for its high quality and deliciousness.  However, these places are quite hidden and can be difficult to find or come across without a guide on the internet.  These fine restaurants are called ‘맛집’ (mat-jib) which means ‘delicious/tasty house’ and there are many posted on the internet which have been highly recommended and rated by customers.

One of these ‘맛집’ is called ‘매운대(maeundae) which specialises in Korean spicy food, especially Galbi-Jjim!  What sets this restaurant apart from other Galbi-Jjim restaurants are that they are well known for their meat to be extra flavourful and super tender.  Ohhhh~~~~

If you are not into spicy food you can specially order a non spicy version of it…or if you are feeling hot hot hot you can order an extra spicy one…can you take the heat?

This is not the first time I’ve featured a ‘맛집’.  Check out the other posts I did previously in Hongdae, Itaewon, and Garosugil.

Have you tried delicious food in a ‘맛집’ before?  Next time you are in Seoul don’t just try out any measly, mediocre, rubber tasting food…check out the ‘맛집’s on the internet to get the most out of your experience!

  2. I will be in Korea this year so I look forward to browse your blog and find neat places to go 🙂 The Maeundae will be interesting for my friend who loves spicy food! I on the other hand prefer more sweet than spicy 🙂 May I ask what lens you are using for your pictures? I think they are beautiful and I was thinking about getting a new lens soon before I travel (btw, will def. visit the DSLR café you posted about!)
Have a happy day and love from Germany 🙂

  3. Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing your experiences with everyone. I’ll be traveling to Seoul and Busan next week and will read more of your blog before my trip.
